This flash essay is part of a collaborative, constrained-writing challenge undertaken by some members of the Bangalore Substack Writers Group. This month, each of us examined the concept of ‘BELONGING
What a delightful take on belonging — and to journey through life's twists and turns much like the tree! If we belong anywhere, it must be in these moments when we truly feel connected in whatever small ways to the natural wonders around us.
This one made me smile ear to ear! What lovely observation and writing. I can’t wait to see this tree next time I go to cubbon. I’m going to think of you and this piece when I see it :)
Loved this! I also adore the trees of Cubbon Park. My favorite is the famous big Tabebuia tree opposite the library. Every year, we have a little ritual of spending a day or two under it, clicking a family portrait & sending it as our New Year postcard to family & friends.
Now I’m curious to go see Ms. Honge next time I’m around Cubbon Park :)
Loved reading this! Too bad I didn't remember Ms. Honge whenever I went to Cubbon Park, but now I have this wonderful piece to remind me. Thank you for sharing :)
What a lovely lovely essay! While I hug the trees of Cubbon Park en masse, I've not formed a specific attachment to any one. This one has shown me how beautiful that could be. I'm going to look out for this magnificent tree on my next walk. Love how the park authorities have made headspace for the tree. Small joys in a messy world. ☘️

Glad you enjoyed the piece Shruthi. Yes, do say hello to Ms. Honge :)
"The city grew bigger, and the park grew smaller, but the tree stayed put, inhabiting her Schrodinger worlds."
What a delightful sentence. Lovely read, Nidhi!

Omg I love this tree and always love observing it whenever I pass it by! I was so moved to read about your evolving relationship with it
